Peterborough Toastmasters

Toastmasters International is devoted to the mission of effective communication and strong leadership. Therefore, all Toastmasters Clubs worldwide strive to provide a mutually supportive and positive learning environment within which every member has the opportunity to develop his or her communication and leadership skills.

Upon joining Peterborough Toastmasters, you will receive both Speaking Photo

the Competent Communication and Competent Leadership manuals. These manuals are designed to build solid foundations in both areas by stressing different aspects of public speaking (such as vocal variety, body language, and props) and leadership (such as critical thinking, time management, and organization). When the 10 projects in each manual are completed, you are awarded the designations of Competent Communicator and Competent Leader, respectively. The Toastmasters program, however, is a continual learning experience and you can proceed onward to any number of advanced programs in communication and leadership that are geared to your specific career and personal needs.

There are no instructors in a Toastmaster Club. Instead, each Toastmaster meeting is a "learn-by-doing" workshop in which your speaking talents are polished in a comfortable, friendly atmosphere. There is also no rush. You proceed at your own pace and receive along the way constructive evaluation from your peers. This evaluation process is an integral component of the overall educational program. In addition to prepared speeches, Table Topics allow you to hone your impromptu speaking skills and be better prepared to "think and speak on your feet".
